 Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

30/11/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 102,142 tonnes of cargo comprising 74,744 tonnes of import cargo and 27,398 tonnes of export cargo including 3,159 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 74,744 tonnes comprised of 16,361 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20 tonnes of general cargo; 10,924 tonnes of bulk cargo: 8,872 tonnes of DAP; 2,052 tonnes of seeds and 47,439 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,398 tonnes comprised of 24,350 tonnes of containerised cargo; 161 tonnes of general cargo and 2,887 tonnes of cement.

As many as 3,159 containers comprising 1,520 containers import and 1,639 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 347 of 20's and 467 of 40's loaded while 187 of 20's and 26 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 642 of 20's and 354 of 40's loaded containers while 97 of 20's and 96 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are six ships namely Ital Moderna, Kota Kaya, Santa Rosa, Songa Opal, Manas and Ikan Salmon carrying containers, oil tankers and cement respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are four vessels viz Kota Kaya, APL Seattle, Langeland and Shaker-2 carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There are two ships namely Langeland and Beach-4 carrying general cargo and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while five ships namely Corcovado, Shaker-2, Baltic Wind, Iskandar and Sea Wave carrying containers, general cargo, DAP and cement respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.

There are three vessels viz YM East, Liberty Pride and Eastern Sun carrying containers, vehicle and steel respectively due to arrive on Friday, while two vessels viz Kota Hening and Wan Hai-513 carrying containers are due to arrive on Saturday.

A cargo volume of 154,194 tonnes comprising 126,293 tonnes of import cargo and 27,901 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,472 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 126,293 tonnes includes 66,752 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,363 tonnes of palm oil; 1,119 tonnes of sunflower seeds; 2,406 tonnes of steel coil; 11,645 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 35,008 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,901 tonnes includes 7,437 tonnes of cement and 20,464 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There were two ships namely CMA CGM Coral and Lote sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours.

A total number of ten vessels viz CV CMA CGM Coral, CV Jumme Trader, MV Beacon Sin, MV Hony Future, MV Star Epsilon, MV Lito, MT Quetta, MV Asorelia, Ever Rich-3 and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, sunflower seeds, cement, steel coils, phosphoric acid, palm oil, furnace oil and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as nine ships namely MSC Clementina, Jumme Trader, Elini-D, Theo Flaktos, Ocean Brother, Christos Theo, Feng Hai-32, Stolt Spray, Bunga Melati-4 and Argent Fressia carrying containers, wheat, sunflower seeds, fertiliser, rice palm oil and phosphoric acid are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were six vessels with containers, furnace oil, palm oil, steel coil and wheat took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are four ships namely CV MSC Clementina, MV Ocean Brother, MV Elini-D and MT Argent Fressia carrying containers, DAP, wheat and phosphoric acid due to arrive on Friday.
