Middle East's palm oil imports reach 1.4m tons

19/04/2008 (MENAFN, Jordan) - According to a report published by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), the Middle East has imported 1.4 million tons palm oil constituting 45 percent of its overall imports of oils and fats products last year, Khaleej Times reported.

The report further showed that global exports of the product have reached 13.7 million tons, accounting for 26 percent of the world's oils and fats products consumption, which was recorded at 57.8 million tons in the same year.

It is worth mentioning that the council aims to further improve business opportunities in the Gulf, MPOC and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) by announcing the first 'Malaysia-UAE Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar' (POTS) 2008.
