Oil Palm cultivation Successful in Mizoram, Says Committee
16/10/2013 (Mizonews.Net) - The 10th Mizoram Oil Palm Advisory Committee yesterday met here in Aizawl during which a review on cultivation was held.

As per report given by Member Secretary Dr.C.Lalzarliana, Director of Agriculture (CH), Oil Palm cultivation in Mizoram has so far covered 13,056 Hactare land area; 4,510 Ha. area in 2013 alone. The meeting also set the target area for 2014-2015, 2015-2016 & 2016-2017.

The Advisory Committee meeting also formulated plans for Oil Palm cultivation, which includes setting up of Oil Palm Factory in Serchhip and Lunglei.

Besides discussing the steps to be taken by companies, works at Oil Palm Factory in Bukvannei, Kolasib District,was also reviewed by the Advisory Committee.

Report was also given on the ongoing works of 3 Companies namely-Godrej Agrovet Ltd, Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd, 3F Oil Palm Agrotech Pvt Ltd. for setting up of Oil Palm Factories in the State. Godrej Agrovet Ltd is expected to complete its work within this year.

Since 2008, companies has bought oil palm at Rs. 4.75/- per kg, and 2318 MT of oil palm has been yielded so far. Oil Palm cultivators have also marketed Rs. 110 lakhs worth so far. The meeting also discussed the rate of Oil Palm seedling. Work is also on for Oil Palm Seed Garden at West Serzawl through Central government initiative, the Department leaders said, adding, within short time from now, import of Oil Palm chi (Sprout) will not be necessary.

At present, Oil Palm cultivation is carried out in 6 districts viz. Aizawl, Kolasib, Mamit, Serchhip Lunglei & Lawngtlai.
